Covid-19 Nihi’s Guidelines

NIHI Sumba is a purposeful resort with 28 private villas set over  576 acres in Sumba – a remote island, 50-min flight from Bali, in Indonesia. Our guiding principle “Freedom to Thrive” stands for understanding, self-containment, impact, and space. With an area roughly the size of Jamaica, Sumba has a population of only 756,000, most of which is concentrated on the eastern part of the island, far away from the resort. Our Nihiwatu beach stretches over 1.5 miles offering plenty of options to wander freely and be fully connected.

NIHI Sumba is an ideal destination for luxury travelers who look for secure, private, and self-contained experiences in a remote place surrounded by unspoiled natural beauty, and pristine wilderness.

In light of the new normal, we are introducing a new Resort Standard for creating the safest environment for our guests and our community, and established a task force that has been working on a comprehensive reopening plan that builds upon our high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness. Additionally, we set up Dedicated Core Service Teams to ensure our guests’ journey is handled seamlessly by the same staff members throughout their stay and completely worry-free.

Socially Distant, Wildly Connected

The Welcome

• VIP Welcome Team* to facilitate immigration and customs processes during arrival and departures (Domestic and International)
• NIHI COVID kit provided on arrival
• Dedicated counter and VIP Lounge* to avoid queues
• Hand-free baggage service at all times
• Transfer services, upon request, for overnight stays in Bali
• VIP Welcome Team* to escort guests between and inside the terminals, and to their transfer vehicle
• Preferential boarding for the domestic flight to/from Sumba
• Pre-arranged tickets to ensure groups/families are seated together and with empty seats allocated around**

The Drive

• All vehicles disinfected and cleaned before and after each trip
• All drivers wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
• The team instructed to avoid physical contact and to limit conversations to minimal with guests
• Vehicles stop on official check points for hand washing, body temperature check and luggage disinfection (during the drive where indicated)

Your Stay

• Direct transfer from the airport to your villa’s doorstep
• No check-in process
• 28 unique luxury multi-bedroom villas and estates with private pools and terraces
• Dedicated Core Service Team composed up of a Guest Kaptain and 5 team members for each guest/family
• A Guest Kaptain and Health and Safety Manager lead the core team acting as guest’s main point of contact
• Staff living on the resort grounds

The Resort

• Arrivals to the resort remain strictly limited to guests and “essential” staff
• Mandatory temperature checks and hand washing at the resort entrance for everyone entering the property
• Guests with temperature above 98.6°F (37°C) asked to be quarantined in their villa where they are monitored by our International SOS medical experts.
• Staff with temperature above 98.6°F (37°C) asked to be quarantined and sent home

Healthy & Safety

• All staff including housekeeping wear PPE
• All staff sign a “healthcare commitment”
• Hand sanitizer stations and equipment disinfectant wipes available throughout private and public spaces
• Sanitizer swabs provided for guest’s use to clean personal items (phones, computers, etc.)
• Guests encouraged to wear masks during their stay
• Masks may be mandatory during tours outside the resort
• Staff adopts minimal contact/communication relying on digital communication, when possible
• Ongoing training and updates following WHO and the Indonesian government health authorities’ guidelines

Sanitation & Cleaning

• Sanitation seal including information on the last cleaning
• All surfaces including the floors are sanitized daily
• Carpets removed from villas for sanitization; villas with hardwood and stone floors are also available
• Disinfectants used for all continuous and deep cleaning processes

Food & Beverage

• In-villa dining recommended and available at all times
• The number of tables reduced to maintain the social distancing norms
• All community nights have been postponed until further notice
• Staff trained for food safety and hygiene practices
• On-site ozone-treated bottled water in compliance with all applicable local regulations
• Steam sterilisation process for all linen and tableware including china, cutlery, glassware, serving dishes

Leisure Areas

• Outdoor activities are abundant and encouraged
• All spa treatments available in your villa and in private Nihioka Spa Safari***
• One guest at a time allowed in the fitness center; all equipment sanitized after each use
• All villas have private pools for guest’s leisure
• The main pool at the Nio Beach Club is open
