the Joy of Horses

Introduce your child to the joys of caring for and riding a horse at NIHI Sumba’s Kids’ Pony Club.

Our Sandalwood Stables equestrian team teaches the art of horsemanship with our friendly Sumba ponies. This program introduces children to the daily routines of our stables; grooming, cleaning and feeding, while enjoying games with the ponies.

Children can also hop into the saddle and learn to ride with basic horse riding lessons through gentle guided strolls. NIHI’s Kids’ Pony Club is a fun and interactive learning experience designed for our little horse-loving guests.

Overview

Head down to our Sandalwood Stables to learn the art of horsemanship with our friendly Sumba ponies.

This program teaches children about the daily routines of our stables; grooming, cleaning and feeding. Enjoy some equine entertainment with our team, playing pony games while exploring horse communication and handling skills.

Our Pony Club is a fun and interactive learning experience for our little horse-loving guests.

Riders charge across the field on horseback, hurling wooden spears in a dramatic contest between rival villages. The spectacle is intense, fast paced, and deeply symbolic.

For the Sumbanese, Pasola is far more than competition. It is believed that when blood touches the earth during the battle, it blesses the land and ensures a prosperous rice harvest for the season ahead.
