Visit some of Sumba’s most authentic and isolated villages that remain quietly rooted in tradition.

Your adventure to Lamboya begins with a scenic drive into the rural highlands. At the beautiful hilltop village of Pakat, you’ll travel on foot on a trail that opens out to sweeping views of thecoastline and navigates you through farmland and the island’s rugged landscapes.

The three-mile trek winds through villages and countryside, offering a glimpse into daily life in Lamboya and the enduring connection between the land and its people. After the hike, a short drive brings you to Sumba’s “Rice Island,” an elevated jungle islet surrounded by lush rice fields, where you’ll have a scenic picnic.

Overview

Driven by car to the top of the rural highlands, you will visit the scenic village of Pakat.

From here, take a stroll down to the riverbank to start your hike, while taking in the rich and varied views of the coast and farmland along the way.

Following your three-mile village and landscape trek and a short transfer by car, find time to explore the Sumba ‘Rice Island’.

This elevated jungle, which rises above picturesque rice fields, is the ideal place to relax and take it all in while indulging in a special NIHI® picnic.
