Nihi Hotels consists of a team of experienced professionals who have worked together for a number of years to lead its development.
Chairman & Owner
Chris Burch, founder and CEO of Burch Creative Capital, has been an entrepreneur and active investor across a wide range of industries for nearly forty years. He has contributed to the rise of multiple technology and luxury brands, including Faena Hotel + Universe, Jawbone, Tory Burch, Poppin and Voss Water.
He is a former board member of Tory Burch, Guggenheim Capital and The Continuum Group. Mr. Burch relied increasingly on his ability to find the nexus between innovation and implementation and continued to realize unusual success, based in part on his intuitive understanding of consumer behavior and his experience utilizing superior sourcing infrastructure and direct-to-consumer channels.
Partner & CEO
As partner and CEO, James leads the team to spearhead the expansion of NIHI Hotels. Recognised as “One to Watch” by Bloomberg Businessweek’s Bloomberg 50 and awarded Independent Hotelier of the World by Hotels magazine, James McBride is a global hotelier who has led some of the world’s leading hotels during his twenty-five year professional career.
Known for his limitless creativity, clever marketing techniques, and exceptional hotel experiences, James has raised the bar in the hospitality industry, paving the way for inventive ideas and competitive spirit.
Dan is responsible for defining and implementing corporate strategy for NIHI Hotels, overseeing all of its corporate affairs and commercial operations, and ensuring both corporate and client performance metrics are achieved.
Prior to joining NIHI Hotels in 2017, he ran the hospitality business for Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) in Indonesia for over a decade with more than 20 years experience in this field).
Dan has facilitated the change in ownership of NIHI Sumba where he joined James since 2012. He holds an MBA in Real Estate from SDSU and a BA in Urban Studies and Planning from (UCSD).
As VP Operations, Julien leads the programming of NIHI’s best-in-class operational management systems across food and beverage, wellness and guest experience, including all pre-opening services. Additionally Julien works closely together with Dan on the expansion of NIH’s footprint, specifically seeking new opportunities in Asia.
Julien has been Managing Director of Nihi Sumba since 2018. He joins Nihi with 15 years experience in food and beverage and operations in the luxury sector. Julien has worked with James since 2010 where he was Director of F&B at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.
Julien has a MSc from IESEG School of Management in Lille.
Matt is responsible for all current asset management and financial reporting, as well as all future financial projections for NIHI Hotels, budgets, and reporting to various shareholders. Prior to joining NIHI Hotels, Matthew fulfilled multiple finance roles within Rosewood Hotels & Resorts up through the completion of the acquisition by New World Hospitality.
Matt has worked with James since 2008 at Rosewood, where he was with the corporate finance team responsible for North America and the Caribbean.
Matt has a BS in Finance and Hospitality Management from Florida State University.
VP Marketing & COMMUNICATIONs
Leading the global marketing team, Cara is responsible for NIHI Hotel’s brand image and global positioning. Cara Joined NIHI in 2018 as General Manager of Nihi Sumba. Together with Julien Laracine, they are responsible for all aspects of the hotel’s operations.
Prior to joining Nihi, Cara was Investment Manager at Schroder Adveq based in Hong Kong, where she covered the firm’s private equity investments in Asia.
Cara has an MBA from INSEAD and an MA in International Business with Mandarin from Edinburgh University.
Managing the global sales team, Antonella is responsible for defining and driving the sales strategy to meet the objectives of NIHI Hotels.
Prior to joining NIHI in 2016, she worked under James McBride’s leadership at The Grosvenor House- London, The Carlyle Hotel-New York and YTL Hotels-Asia. Antonella has 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry with senior management positions for luxury brands across Europe, North/Central America and Asia Pacific.
Antonella has a degree in Hotel Management from the School of London as well as a Masters degree from the University of Catania.
VP Design & Development
Walter leads NIHI Hotel’s Design and Development. He has worked with James on NIHI Sumba since 2012 and has led the design development for all other NIHI branded development projects to date.
Walter founded Habitat 5 Architects based in Bali, Indonesia in 2000. Typically emphasizing on contemporary tropical architecture, the key objectives on any project are to find qualities of each individual site, and to evolve the designs with respect around those features, following brand guidelines, whilst still incorporating all of the owner’s necessities.
