Asty Kulla is an English Teacher and the Founder of English Goes to Kampung. An extraordinary leader for the next generation on Sumba, Asti was elected to represent Indonesia at the International Youth Forum in Rome, where she was honored by the Pope and was also named A Key Opinion Leader and Change-Maker for a Better World in Singapore in 2019. Asty has overcome unsurmountable odds, having been born into an impoverished village in Sumba, and uses her acute understanding of the challenges and needs of her community to make the greatest possible impact. Her grassroots organization English Goes to Kampung began with drawing lessons for her students using sticks in the sand (the only available resources at the time) and has evolved into an impressive education program which is funded by donations, serving multiple villages on Sumba. James McBride speaks to Asty about her remarkable story, the relationship of reciprocity between NIHI and the Sumba community which has supported her mission and her views on the future of the island. You won’t want to miss this inspiring conversation!

His illustrious career began in Paris at the age of 17 inside of the celebrated Jacques Dessange Salon. Today his name sake salon is located at The Carlye, an iconic hotel in the heart of New York City, where his friendship began with the CEO of NIHI Hotels, James McBride. Annabelle Bond, OBE, earned the title “fastest woman climber in the world” in 2005 after scaling the highest peaks on the seven continents in just 360 days. Following 6 months of intensive training, she reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 15th 2004, the fourth British woman to stand on top of the world. After climbing Mount Everest, Annabelle went on to climb the other six mountains that comprise the Seven Summits, making her the only woman in the world to have achieved that extraordinary feat in less than a year. She lives in London and is a Brand Ambassdor for Nihi.

Luca fell in love with Nihi Sumba on his honeymoon trip in 2018, and has recently launched a menswear collection inspired by traditional Sumbanese Ikat textiles. He is the third generation of Italian tailors, carrying on the legacy of his grandfather Gennaro Rubinacci and father Mariano, who is a longtime friend of James’ from The Carlyle. Today the Rubinaccis have stores in London, Naples and Milan, and are internationally celebrated style icons.
