The Resort

NIHI Rote opens in April 2026.

NIHI Rote is located on Bo’a Beach on Rote Island in southeastern Indonesia. The island is accessed via Kupang in West Timor.

The Rote Hospitality Academy is a non-profit vocational school founded in 2024 to train local Rotenese youth in hospitality and tourism. It is integrated into the resort experience.

No. Guest interaction with students is optional and based on personal preference.

Currently there is no ATM at the resort, however there is an ATM is 15 minutes away in Nimbrella.

Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas to preserve the island’s fresh ocean air and ensure the comfort of all guests.

For your safety and comfort, we recommend guided excursions arranged by our team. However, should you prefer independent exploration, we’ll be happy to assist with options.

Most guests arrive using our transfer service, but private parking can be arranged upon request. Simply let us know in advance, and we’ll ensure everything is ready for your arrival.

All villas feature a private pool, Rotenese-inspired architecture, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, daily mini-bar restock, and a dedicated Guest Kapten.

We offer complimentary daily laundry service.

Rote Island is Indonesia’s southernmost island, known for uncrowded surf breaks, coral reefs, rugged coastlines, tropical savannas, and strong local traditions. With a population of around 150,000, it offers a quiet and authentic alternative to more developed destinations.

Rote is considered a hidden gem in the global surf community. It offers over 15 surfable waves, including T-Land at Nemberala and Bo’a right in front of the resort. Conditions are most consistent during the dry season from May to October.

NIHI Rote is built around the Rote Hospitality Academy, a non-profit vocational school training local Rotenese youth in hospitality. Guests check in through the Academy and may choose to engage with students during their stay.

Yes. The Butik offers locally crafted textiles, jewelry, homeware, and exclusive resort wear inspired by Rote’s culture.

Getting There

Guests fly to Kupang from Jakarta, Bali, or Sumba, then connect to Rote Island by domestic flight. Transfers from Rote airport to the resort take approximately 60 minutes.

Kupang to Rote

  • Susi Air operates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:30 AM.
  • Wings Air operates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 15:35 PM.

Rote to Kupang

  • Susi Air operates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:15 AM.
  • Wings Air operates Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7:25 AM.

Schedules may change and should be reconfirmed.

Fast ferry (approximately 2 hours) runs every day.
Kupang to Rote at 9:00 AM.
Rote to Kupang at 12:00 PM.

Yes. Round-trip shared transfers from Rote airport or ferry port are included in the nightly rate.

Wings Air allows surfboards for an additional fee (approximately USD 65 per board, maximum 200 cm / 6’6”). Policies are subject to change.

Guests are welcomed at the airport by NIHI staff and assisted with luggage. During the transfer, snacks and beverages are provided. Upon arrival at the resort, guests are greeted with welcome drinks and may proceed directly to Nammo Beach Club for breakfast or lunch.

Health

Yes. Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority. We have our own clinic that we are partnering with International SOS who will have either Doctor or Paramedic standby at the resort for 24 hours service.

Yes there is, in the city (Ba’a) 60 minutes from the resort.

Yes, NIHI Rote partnering with International SOS who will be liaising with NIHI and our guests when it comes to emergency medical issue, including Medevac to Bali or Jakarta.

Yes, we highly recommend you obtaining travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage.

Yes. Malaria is present in most of Indonesia, and Rote is no exception. At NIHI, we take malaria seriously by regularly fogging the resort and surrounding areas. All rooms are equipped with mosquito nets and are sprayed daily by our housekeeping team. We recommend that guests take preventive measures such as wearing light, loose long-sleeved shirts and long pants in the evenings, using insect repellent (either the one provided at the resort or your own with DEET), and consulting a doctor before travel regarding antimalarial medication. By following these precautions, the risk of mosquito-borne illness is significantly reduced, ensuring a safe and comfortable stay. Malaria transmission is considered low-risk on Rote, however guests should always take precaution.

All activities follow strict safety protocols, with trained guides, regularly checked equipment, weather monitoring, and first-aid support through our on-site SOS clinic.

Experiences

NIHI Rote offers ocean adventures, land expeditions, wellness journeys, cultural workshops, and family-friendly experiences. Activities range from surfing and diving to mountain biking, traditional crafts, and spa rituals.

Yes. Rote offers waves for beginners through advanced surfers. Breaks such as Squealers are ideal for beginners, while Bo’a and T-Land suit experienced surfers depending on conditions.
All water activities are subject to prevailing sea conditions.

A Surfari is a guided boat trip to explore remote surf breaks around Rote and nearby islands. Trips may be 2, 4, or 8 hours depending on swell and guest preference.

Yes. All diving trips are guided by certified professionals and are subject to weather and safety conditions.

Yes. Introductory dive experiences and PADI certification courses are available for beginners.

Yes. Private half-day and full-day fishing charters are available for up to 8 guests, targeting species such as tuna and giant trevally.

Yes. Guided mountain bike routes explore coconut plantations, villages, jungle trails, and scenic viewpoints. Routes vary in difficulty.

A 12 Kilometer distance (oneway) guided ride, winding through breezy coconut groves, peaceful village roads, and forested paths, the trail culminates at the serene Lake Oehela — a mirror-like freshwater lagoon embraced by nature. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a picnic prepared by our culinary team and can take the time to swim or simply unwind, surrounded by birdsong and stillness.

Guests may participate in Rotenese dance classes, Ikat weaving workshops, Sasando hat making, cooking classes, and storytelling sessions.

Yes. Many workshops are family-friendly and suitable for children with supervision.

Yes. Ocean and outdoor experiences are subject to weather, tide, and safety conditions. Alternatives can be arranged if needed.

Yes. Your dedicated Guest Kapten can tailor a personalized itinerary based on your interests, energy level, and length of stay.

Wellness

The Spa Sanctuary offers Indonesian healing rituals & massage therapies, a relaxation garden and rock pool.

Spa treatments are not included in the nightly villa rate, unless part of a special offer or promotional package. Our reservations team will be happy to share current inclusions or tailor a package to your preferences.

Yes. Daily yoga and movement sessions in our open-air pavilion are included. Private sessions can also be arranged for a more personalized experience.

Most sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes, though our highly skilled therapists can tailor shorter or extended rituals to suit your needs, time, and personal preferences.

We recommend booking in advance though sessions may also be arranged upon arrival, subject to availability.

Absolutely. Our double treatment rooms and open-air pavilions are perfect for couples or friends wishing to share their wellness journey side by side.

Yes. Selected treatments can be arranged in the privacy of your villa, allowing you to relax and rejuvenate in your own sanctuary, with the sound of the ocean as your soundtrack.

Yes. We kindly ask guests to inform us of any medical conditions or health concerns prior to their session. Our therapists will then adapt techniques or recommend suitable therapies to ensure your comfort and safety.

We recommend that guests between 1 and 4 months pregnant avoid massages.

NIHI’s air-conditioned gym offers a curated selection of modern fitness equipment paired with the resort’s most inspiring garden views. Guests will find everything they need for a complete workout, including treadmills, an elliptical, a rowing machine, a climber, bicycles, a multifunction station, free weights, kettlebells, and resistance bands.

We recommend wearing comfortable athletic clothing and proper footwear for your workout. Towels and water are provided for your convenience.

For safety and comfort, the gym is reserved for adults and older teens. Younger children are invited to join NIHI’s supervised outdoor adventures, thoughtfully designed to keep them active, curious, and connected with nature.

Absolutely. At NIHI, movement is designed to connect you with nature. Guests can enjoy outdoor fitness sessions including beach workouts, jungle treks, yoga, trail runs, and e-bike rides through Rote’s breathtaking landscapes.

Dining

Absolutely. Our culinary team takes the utmost care in preparing safe and delicious meals for guests with food allergies. Simply inform us in advance of your requirements, and we will ensure every dish is crafted with your comfort and well-being in mind.

Yes. Your stay includes full-board dining (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) in any of NIHI’s signature venues. Each meal is thoughtfully prepared and presented to showcase the best of Rotenese ingredients. Alcoholic beverages are not included. Special dining experiences, such as private beach dinners and curated tasting menus, incur an additional charge.

All non-alcoholic beverages such as fresh juices, smoothies, coconut water, and coffee or tea are included in your stay. Alcoholic beverages, wines, and premium cocktails are available at an additional cost, with a curated wine list and creative bar menu specially designed by our mixologists.

Yes. We are delighted to prepare fresh, homemade baby food using the finest local ingredients. Please share your child’s preferences or dietary needs in advance so our chefs can create meals with special care and attention.
