Creating a Bridge Between Cultures

Guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in local traditions through interactive experiences. From learning the art of Ikat weaving with master artisans to listening to the melodic strains of the Sasando, every moment preserves traditions and offers a deeper connection to the island’s heritage.

Overview

The Ti’ilangga is Rote’s iconic traditional hat, woven from lontar palm and representing both identity and everyday life. Under the guidance of a local artisan, you’ll learn the weaving technique from scratch before leaving with your own handmade creation.

The Sasando is one of the world’s most remarkable instruments, a cylindrical harp amplified by a fan of lontar palm leaves that produces a sound unlike anything else. Found only on Rote, it is the island’s defining cultural symbol. A local musician introduce sits history, demonstrates traditional playing techniques and guides you through your first notes. No musical experience is required.
