Find Balance
Through Horse and Breath.

A truly unique experience of connection awaits at NIHI’s Sandalwood Stables.

Horse Yoga invites you to slow down, breathe with intention, and move gently alongside our Sumba horses in an open-air setting. Horses are deeply intuitive; they respond to your energy, posture, and breath, offering immediate and honest feedback that encourages presence and alignment. Through mindful stretching and grounding practices, you’ll heighten your awareness of balance, tension, and emotion, all while forming a quiet bond with your horse.

In this intimate one-hour session set against the sound of the ocean and the beauty of the surrounding landscape, you’ll gain insight into the nature of these majestic animals and your own body.

Guests practice yoga stretches while seated on horseback during a sunrise Horse Yoga session at NIHI Sumba’s beach, guided by an equestrian team member, creating a serene connection with nature and Sumba’s spirited horses.

Overview

Breathing with intention, gentle stretching, feeling centered and connecting with all your senses while being in lush nature brings clarity and grounded awareness to your body while bonding with your horse.

In this one-hour session, you will learn about our majestic horses and your own body as the horse will react to your tensions, balance and emotions.

It is a powerful experience that brings on a strong sense of connection and relaxation set in our beautiful surroundings.

Exploring Sumba’s Equine Heritage with these experiences packages.

Horses are integral to the soul of Sumba and NIHI®’s exceptional equestrian facility, Sandalwood Stables, offers a range of exceptional equine experiences for horse lovers, beginner through to advanced riders. Our team has handpicked our beautiful herd of local horses, ready to carry you off into the sunset and beyond. The original breed of the local Sumba pony comes from Mongolian and Arab bloodlines, brought to Sumba for trading in exchange for sandalwood and spices. Though a small breed, their genetic makeup makes for an extremely agile and highly spirited horse.
