Guided by four pillars, each session offers a different way to understand how horses communicate, sense energy, and build trust — through observation, stillness, and gentle interaction.

MEET THE HERD An introduction to the NIHI herd and the language of horses. Discover how they communicate through their senses, and what sets the Sumba horse apart from Western breeds.
THE HORSE’S WORLD Step into the horse’s perspective. Through guided exercises, explore how horses experience the human world — building awareness of body language, emotional presence, and the way your energy is felt.
HORSE LISTENING Sound, stillness, and the rhythm of the horse. This quiet session uses meditation and sound to synchronise with our herd — deepening mindfulness, grounding, and presence.
HORSE POWER Learn how horses respond to intention, body language, and leadership energy. Through interactive exercises, develop confidence, communication, and a true sense of partnership.

In an open-air setting, the horse’s presence deepens your practice — responding to your energy and guiding you further into stillness.

Receive a restorative massage with one of our Sumba horses quietly present beside you. Their grounding energy deepens the sense of release and invites you into complete stillness.

Lie down in the quiet company of our horses as NIHI’s Reiki Master guides healing energy through you. Their calm, heart-centred presence eases stress and draws you back into the present moment — where healing begins.

Experience Sumba’s ancient ways on Nihiwatu’s shoreline right in front of @nihi. On Mini Pasola nights by NIHI Sumba, you get an introduction to Sumba’s rich culture. Young riders from the nearby traditional villages pit their skills against one another by racing along the pristine white sand. A friendly and competitive race that guests can watch and cheer for. Proceeds go to the @sumbafoundation to help fund equipment the kids from the nearby villages may need for schooling.

Each day across the island of Sumba, locals bring their horses to the shoreline, where they wade into the sea to bathe and swim in the saltwater. A ritual as old as the island itself.

Easter festivities spanned the entire weekend, with moments of celebration for guests of all ages. Children gathered for egg painting, arts and crafts, face painting, and set off with baskets in hand for the Easter egg hunt.
A special performance by the choir from English Goes to Kampung filled the afternoon with music, while families came together to enjoy festive Easter dining.
