Childhood should be wild, wondrous, and magical, just like the island itself.

That’s the spirit behind the NIHI Wildlings Kids Club, a full-day immersive program for children aged 4 to 12, designed to spark imagination, nurture curiosity, and let kids simply be Wildings.

Every day is thoughtfully led by experienced guides and educators who blend safety, spontaneity, and storytelling through a range of fun activities. While the Wildlings are discovering new passions and building friendships, parents are free to indulge in their own moments of peace.

The NIHI Wildlings Kids Club runs daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, starting at Chris & Charly’s Chocolate Factory.

Pre-arranged early breakfast supervision is available for parents heading out on morning adventures. If guests wish to drop children off earlier, a 24-hour pre-booking is required. Children under 4 years old are welcome to join when accompanied by a parent or dedicated nanny.

Wildlings Schedule

Hunt for shells, create ocean-inspired art, and learn about sea turtles in a day full of marine discoveries. We’ll head out for scenic beach strolls collecting shells for fun art and craft activities while learning captivating stories about the ocean and marine life, including all about NIHI Sumba’s conservation efforts to protect Indonesia’s sea turtles.

A day dedicated to learning about the spirit of Sumba – its horses. Storytelling sessions teaching about the cultural significance of horses to the island are combined with a fun visit to NIHI’s Sandalwood Stables. An interactive activity where children will learn about caring for a horse. The nature lessons continue with an exploration of Sumba’s environment, safely catching insects to observe, teaching the children how to gently handle the critters before releasing them back into the wild.

A vibrant cultural experience awaits our Wildings. Children will dress in traditional Sumbanese attire and learn about its significance, as well as local customs and basic Sumbanese greetings. The festivities will include a lively parade around NIHI, allowing the children to showcase their costumes while we capture memorable photos. They will then participate in a Sumbanese dance lesson, guided by a skilled instructor who will teach them basic dance steps and introduce them to traditional music. We’ll conclude the day with a fun coconut smoothie making session.

From storytelling and clay sculpting to playful mud fun, this day is all about connecting with the earth through creativity. Here children will learn about working with clay and the story of the Sumba Man before they create their own figures and other clay crafts. Then we’ll have fun with mud play at the Boathouse.

A day of adventure in the Edge of Wildness beckons our young explorers. Heading out for a jungle walk armed with binoculars and magnifying glasses, children will search for birds, animals, and fascinating plants while learning the importance of respecting nature and safety. A visit to NIHI’s Food Forest extends the interactive learning by identifying edible plants and harvesting fresh ingredients to create a delicious salad. All that exploring is hungry work and we’ll conclude the day with a fun pizza making class.

NIHI’s Wildings will get to test their detective skills by following clues that will lead them around the resort uncovering hidden treasures. After the treasure hunt, we’ll then celebrate with a party at the Chocolate Factory with delicious treats and refreshments. The fun then continues with a chocolate making session to conclude the day.

Join us for a creative and fun-filled day! The children will use palm leaves to make their own origami figures, including fish, balls, and hats to foster their creativity. In the afternoon, we’ll transfer those creative skills to a delightful (and delicious) cupcake decoration activity.

Riders charge across the field on horseback, hurling wooden spears in a dramatic contest between rival villages. The spectacle is intense, fast paced, and deeply symbolic.

For the Sumbanese, Pasola is far more than competition. It is believed that when blood touches the earth during the battle, it blesses the land and ensures a prosperous rice harvest for the season ahead.
