Rooted in longevity, mobility, and mindful movement, our hiking and trekking experiences immerse you into the raw beauty of Sumba. Distances range from 7km to 27km and take you through timeless villages, past grazing buffalo herds, across rice paddies, and toward panoramic viewpoints and hidden waterfalls. Guided by our Wild Wellness team at NIHI Sumba, each trail is designed to challenge the body, clear the mind, and deepen your connection to the land.

Beginning at NIHI Sumba, this scenic trek winds across vibrant rice fields and jungle ridgelines before arriving at Nihioka, our iconic spa retreat. Here, a well-earned breakfast is prepared over an open fire in a setting that feels truly otherworldly.

Prefer to reverse the journey? Start with breakfast at Nihioka before trekking 7km back to the resort.

Riders charge across the field on horseback, hurling wooden spears in a dramatic contest between rival villages. The spectacle is intense, fast paced, and deeply symbolic.

For the Sumbanese, Pasola is far more than competition. It is believed that when blood touches the earth during the battle, it blesses the land and ensures a prosperous rice harvest for the season ahead.
