The New Heart of NIHI Sumba

Launched June 2026, the Riding & Racquet Club is NIHI Sumba’s most anticipated new chapter — a private members’ club aesthetic translated onto the sand, where the romance of the great polo clubs meets the raw, elemental beauty of Sumba. Set beachfront alongside our newest villas, the club is home to NIHI’s Sandalwood Stables, a brand new international tennis court, a clubhouse lounge and bar, and our signature Monday night Bakar di Kandang Kuda dinner. There is nothing quite like it on the island. There is nothing quite like it anywhere.

The social heart of the Riding & Racquet Club. Dark teak panelling, thatched ceilings, warm amber light, and a deep forest green bar create an atmosphere reminiscent of the world's great polo and racquet clubs. By day, a gathering place for riders, players, and families — guests can enjoy a light bite, follow the world's great sporting moments, or retreat from the midday sun between matches and rides. By evening, it transforms into one of Sumba's most distinctive sunset destinations.

NIHI's infamous Sandalwood ponies are stabled beachfront, visible from the terrace as the sun drops into the Indian Ocean. The herd has been central to NIHI's identity since the very beginning — ancient, untamed, and woven into the soul of the island. Our stable offers a variety of equestrian adventures, from focused horse riding lessons to the exhilarating freedom of a beach horse ride. For a moment you will carry with you forever.

A beautifully appointed new international tennis court set directly off the lounge terrace, available for private coaching, friendly matches, and everything in between. We have partnered with the experts at Liga Tennis to provide professional coaching, ensuring you have top-tier guidance in the heart of Sumba.

NIHI's signature Monday evening BBQ on the beach at the Sandalwood Stables. Our culinary team prepares a generous open-fire feast — beautifully smoked meats and vibrant accompaniments — beneath the stars with the horses close by and the sound of the ocean beyond.

A carefully curated collection of NIHI's most distinctive creations, featuring limited-edition apparel, collectible heritage pieces, equestrian and racquet club essentials, artisan-crafted accessories, and exclusive collaborations inspired by the culture, craftsmanship, and wild beauty of Sumba.
