Chef Shugo Kokado is the Executive Chef and Instructor at Buddha Bellies Cooking School Tokyo. Beginning his culinary career in Osaka at the age of 16, Chef Shugo mastered the art of sushi and kappo, a traditional Japanese multi-course dining style.
In addition to teaching, he works as a sushi consultant and a jet-setting private chef, catering to clients around the globe. Chef Shugo’s expertise was vital in establishing Kaboku as NIHI Sumba’s fine dining omakase restaurant.

A new chapter begins on the shores of Nihiwatu as @nihi’s new Riding & Racquet Club meets the Edge of Wildness.
A private members’ club aesthetic, translated onto the sand, with an international tennis court and a terrace overlooking the ocean for sunset drinks. This is where the romance of great polo clubs meets the raw, elemental beauty of Sumba.
The Riding & Racquet Club is unlike anywhere else. A concept that could only exist at NIHI.
As the tide recedes along Nihiwatu Beach, local people, young and old, come together to venture onto the exposed reef, gathering sea grapes and seafood from the rock pools.
Timed by the rhythm of the ocean and shaped by generations of knowledge, it’s a simple yet enduring part of life in Sumba.
