The magic of this perfect wave has and always will be the wild and unfiltered freedom surfers who visit our resort can feel while experiencing this extraordinary part of the Indian Ocean.

LIMITED SURFERS
To maintain a globally unparalleled surfing experience, we limit the wave to fifteen (15) registered surfers per day, so please ensure you get your bookings in to avoid disappointment.

Known as “God’s Left” or “Occy’s Left” (after Australian surfer Mark Occhilupo), the wave is popular for its rugged character.

For even the most experienced surfer, the NIHI^® wave presents a challenge due to its sensitivity to nature’s conditions: tides, size, strength, and direction.

However, the reward for catching an epic ride is a 300-meter-long, thrilling journey through sections of rippling swell and heaving barrels.

GOOD TO KNOW
Our jet-ski service fee is part of a safe and sound surf experience at NIHI® Sumba.

Novice and first-time surfers can still get their feet wet with lessons on Nihiwatu beach, depending on the swell. Calmer waters can often be found at nearby Coconut Cove, where surfers can spend half a day with breakfast or lunch and do some light surfing, then be driven back to the resort.
